NO COVER NO MINIMUM (but very good hummus w/ mushrooms if you're so inclined)
Over the last six months or so I’ve been working up a new (to me) — but old (to me) — approach to music. Down went the guitar pick, and I started working finger-style chops back up. The electric guitars went (temporarily) back into their cases, and I bought a new steel string acoustic guitar. And I started learning a bunch of songs that either are, or are like, the songs I grew up listening to; the music that I first understood as “mine” and that I still love: rock and roll, folk, blues, country-rock; and other branches of that particularly American tree. What I later learned of jazz, and later discovered in the experience of playing freeform improvised music, still informs how I play (I hope), but the goal for me now is to work within these songs and see what I can find.
This is the first solo gig I’ve done since 2008, and the first solo + vocal gig I’ve ever done. Hope you can come down.
This show’s tunes are by Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead, anonymous, Michael Hurley, Jeffrey Frederick, Jerry Garcia & Robert Hunter, & J.R. Cheatham, and deal with issues involving foolish sailors, happy couples, truck driving, bullfrogs, terrifying acts of God, and disappearing foodstuffs.
